Internships

  • Art and Design team interns will work on a variety of art projects, including designing posters, diagrams, brochures, covers, presentations, art pieces for social media campaigns, and artwork for The Culture C.O.-O.P.’s documentary, The Cost of Darkness. They also plan, implement, and invite people to an annual art show to gain experience in the business of art.

  • Documentary/Film team interns will work on the Cost of Darkness documentary, as well as other shorts addressing critical issues in our world today. They also learn other skill sets such as marketing, presentation skills, and increase their knowledge in the area of systemic change.

  • Edit Blog and Publishing team interns will edit the work of other interns (i.e., posters, blogs), update the blog post website, “We All Have A Heritage,” research and write blogs, and prepare books for publication. In addition, they will work on opinion editorials to submit to publications.

  • PR/Marketing/Event Planning team interns will do PR, marketing, event planning, and fundraising around equity and inclusion. They will interact with a variety of segments of the community representing diverse entities interested in systemic change.

  • Are interested in joining an initiative that promotes respect for systemic change, inclusion, equity, cultural competency,  diversity, literacy, and quality education for all.

  • Want to proactively participate in efforts to encourage addressing the root causes of problems locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

  • Are a caring, optimistic, and open-minded person who can motivate people, including youth, parents, educators, and the community, to empower others to create healthy spaces where all people can thrive.

  • Desire to get involved in equity-related work while being comfortable with addressing supremacy ideology, historical isms, caste, eugenics, injustice, and oppression in order to create healthier systems.

  • Are interested and willing to learn more about your culture, as well as the culture of others (through weekly Culture Sharings, completing the assigned readings, audiobooks, and projects where we engage real communities who are facing a variety of issues and challenges).

  • Are willing to give short presentations; learn and utilize self-care practices; lead a stillness activity for the others to participate in, and write at least one blog to be posted on our “We All Have a Heritage” website (among other assignments as requested).

  • If you want to grow individually while making a difference and exploring what your purpose is in life.

Role Description

Art and Design team interns will work on a variety of art projects, including designing posters, diagrams, brochures, covers, presentations, art pieces for social media campaigns, and artwork for The Culture C.O.-O.P.’s documentary, The Cost of Darkness. In addition, team members will develop a visual outline around equity and inequity and will organize and conduct a public art show to showcase their own art at the end of the year.

Art and Design team interns will research the topic of the project at hand, the audience, and the client’s requirements. They will discuss their ideas as a team, then, branch off into individual assignments to craft the project. To implement the project, the team utilizes a general design process that involves brainstorming, iterations, development, feedback, and making the necessary improvements in the end. They also work collectively on projects as part of a holistic approach. We are looking for creative people who like to have their work have an impact.

Role Description

Documentary/Film team interns will work on the The Cost of Darkness documentary, as well as other shorts addressing critical issues in our world today. They also learn other skill sets such as marketing, presentation skills, and increase their knowledge in the area of systemic change. The film explores the cost of having darker skin against the backdrop of historical inequity, oppression, and white supremacy. Interns will assist in completing the documentary and help to promote, organize, and facilitate viewings and discussions.

Documentary/Film team interns will also conduct research, direct, produce, and edit video projects regarding the documentary and topics related to inclusion and equity. They will meet as a team to brainstorm, discuss, and develop video ideas. They will coordinate ideas to promote The Culture C.O.-O.P. and its work. Most importantly, they will submit The Cost of Darkness documentary to various film festivals and promote the film nationally and internationally.

Role Description

Edit Blog and Publishing team interns will edit the work of other interns (i.e., posters, blogs), update the blog post website, “We All Have A Heritage,” research and write blogs, and prepare books for publication. Team members will also edit and write material to support and publicize The Cost of Darkness, a documentary by The Culture C.O.-O.P. The film explores the cost of having darker skin against the backdrop of historical inequity, oppression, and white supremacy.

Human Resource team interns will participate in a variety of activities that support the work of The Culture C.O.-O.P. team and things related to the operating of The CUlture C.O.-O.P. itself. They will work directly with the director to help coordinate projects, calendars, and community work. Human Resource interns will also assist with a variety of functions that are critical to the operations of The Culture C.O.-O.P. and United in Unity.

Both Edit Blog and Publishing and Human Resource team interns will update The Culture C.O.-O.P. 's Handshake and LinkedIn account pages (when needed, and if necessary) as well as other administrative functions.

Role Description

PR/Marketing/Event Planning team interns will do PR, marketing, event planning, and fundraising around equity and inclusion. They will interact with a variety of segments of the community representing diverse entities interested in systemic change. They will develop a complete marketing strategy to promote The Culture C.O.-O.P.’s products, services, mission, and paradigm for transforming individuals, communities, systems, and beyond which features The Cost of Darkness documentary. The film explores the cost of having darker skin against the backdrop of historical inequity, oppression, and white supremacy. Interns will manage social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and periodically update the website, newsletter, and other informational materials.

PR/Marketing/Event Planning team interns will also assist in event planning by coordinating stage performers at live and virtual events, such as Sacramento MLK Day March, Davis Juneteenth Celebration, the Sankofa play, and other creative projects. Team members will contact potential performers, oversee volunteers, and manage various events.
