Sandy Lynne Holman received her M.S. degree in School Counseling from California State University, Sacramento in 1991. She is the director of the Culture C.O.-O.P., an organization aimed at assisting those who are working with diversity in education, business and the community.

Sandy's experiences as a counselor, prevention coordinator and consultant for the past several years have given her a practicioner's insight into the challenges diverse communities and organizations are facing and a strong commitment to advocacy for children.

Sandy was inspired to write this story following her experiences with children in schools. Some of the African American children would comment on how much they disliked the color black and their own dark skin. Sandy dedicates this book to those and other children and to the memory of her grandparents, Rufus and Willie Lee.
